Richard G. Goetz:Legal Perspective on China's Business Environment and Future Development
Mr. Richard G. Goetz, International Practice Group Leader, Dykema Gossett PLLC, Detroit, Michigan
Mr. Goetz recently joined the Dykema Gossett law firm as the head of its International Practice Group. In this new capacity, he will lead the expansion of the firm's international practice in Asia and other regions. Based in the Midwest, with offices in California, Illinois, Michigan, and Washington, D.C., Dykema Gossett is one of the country's largest and most respected legal services and public policy consulting firms. Dykema Gossett advises domestic and foreign-based companies and institutions on a wide variety of business issues including corporate governance, growth strategies, joint ventures, mergers, acquisitions, licensing and risk reduction, regulatory compliance, international trade, e-commerce and many others. Dykema Gossett's clients include vehicle manufacturers from Asia, Europe and North America as well as automotive suppliers from around the world.
Prior to his retirement earlier this year, Mr. Goetz was the Associate General Counsel ?International for Ford Motor Company. Since 1999, he had primary responsibility for legal matters affecting Ford in Asia, Africa, Latin America, The Middle East, Russia and, more recently, Canada. Dick's career with Ford spanned 32 years, the first 10 of which he and his family spent in Venezuela. He was a key participant in Ford's entry into China and other Asian countries as well as into Eastern Europe. During his career in Ford, he has represented the Company in transactions on five continents.
Mr. Goetz served on the boards of numerous Ford joint ventures and subsidiaries and as a member of the Operating Committees for Ford's Asia, Pacific & Africa and Canada, Mexico and South America operations. He has been a member and former chairman of the Conference Board's Council of Senior International Lawyers, a trustee of the US-China Legal Cooperation Fund and is a member of board of directors of Michigan Opera Theatre. He is a member of the Michigan, Illinois and Indiana bars.
Mr. Goetz attended the College of Law at the University of Illinois and received his under graduate degree from Southern Illinois University. He served in the Peace Corps in Ecuador and as a Teaching Fellow at the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello in Caracas Venezuela under the auspices of the Latin American Teaching Fellowships program of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Harvard and Tufts Universities. He and his wife Aurora reside in Grosse Pointe Woods, they have two daughters.

Clarence Kwan:China's Automotive Market The US Perspective

Clarence Kwan became the National Managing Partner, Chinese Services Group (CSG), Deloitte & Touche LLP in 2004 after more than 25
years of outstanding assurance and advisory work in the US, China and
Europe. Before joining the CSG as Deputy National Partner in 2002,
Kwan served as the deputy CEO of the firm's China practice from
1995 to 2002. Prior to Beijing, he spent three years in Prague advising
extensively on the restructuring of state-owned enterprises. In addition
to his firm duties, Kwan serves as the chairman of both the U.S.
Council for International Business' China Subcommittee and the China
Task Force of the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the
OECD. He also serves as a senior advisor to the Federation of Investment
Promotion Agencies of China, under the Ministry of Commerce, and
to the China Association of CFOs. A US CPA with Deloitte since 1978,
Kwan holds a master's degree in accounting from the University of
Texas and is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in management
from China's Tsinghua University.

G. Mustafa Mohatarem:China's Auto Industry: Can It Sustain Its Rapid Pace Of Growth?
G. Mustafa Mohatarem, Ph.D., was named chief economist of General Motors Corporation on March 1, 1995. He serves on the Coordination Committee of the corporation's Public Policy Center and the Corporate Risk Management committee.
GM's Corporate Economics Team is responsible for assessing the impact of worldwide economic developments on the corporation. In addition, the Economics Team provides advice to the corporation on various competitive and economic policy issues.
Mohatarem is an expert on trade issues and heads the corporation's Trade Team. He interacts regularly with officials from the United States and other countries on trade-related issues. He was the lead contact for GM with the United States and other governments during Uruguay Round General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) negotiations, as well as the U.S.-Canada Free Trade Agreement, and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
Mohatarem joined General Motors in 1982 as an economist on the Economics Staff in Detroit. In 1985, he became senior staff assistant on the Industry-Government Relations Staff. The following year he returned to the Economics Staff as senior staff economist specializing in competitive-analysis issues. He was promoted to director of trade and competitive analysis in 1987, and general director of economic analysis in 1990.
Mohatarem was born on Oct. 15, 1953, in Quetta, Pakistan. He received an undergraduate degree in economics and mathematics from Denison University, Granville, Ohio, in 1976. He earned both master-of-business-administration and doctorate degrees in economics from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 1979 and 1982, respectively.
Mohatarem has also served as visiting assistant professor at the University of Notre Dame. While at GM, he has taught courses as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Michigan and the University of Detroit.
