In the past few years, many Chinese companies and Chinese-Americans have established sales/service offices, logistics centers, or research and development facilities in Michigan. With their rapid growing business, Chinese companies in Michigan represent an emerging economic force for the US-China business exchange.
To address the needs of these local companies and other entrepreneurs, Detroit Chinese Business Association will host a business seminar on December 10, 2007, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM at Sheraton Hotel, Novi. Michigan. With experts from Foley & Lardner law firm, Comerica Bank and Clayton & McKervey CPA firm, the seminar will cover a wide range of questions you may encounter in your daily operation, from legal, to finance and accounting. This seminar is also to establish a business tie within the Chinese/Chinese-American business community. The following will be covered in the form of presentations and Q&A:
- What is the importance of the business entity / How to protect yourself and the assets of your business
Steve Hilfinger, partner and Co-Chair of the Automotive Industry Team of Foley & Lardner LLP, will discuss the legal and business issues facing entrepreneurs and emerging companies. This will include how to develop an effective business plan for your business, how to establish an appropriate business entity consistent with the business plan and needs of the company, how the owner can protect himself or herself and the assets of the business (including intellectual property), the legal duties facing owners, officers and directors of businesses and how to plan for financing and effective growth after the company is established.

- How to handle your business finance
Aaron Perrault, Vice President of International Finance - Comerica Bank, will discuss how companies can establish business credit after entering the US market. He will share with us how to apply for a business loan, what your bank will expect from you, and other services and benefits that are available for business owners.

Kevin McKervey from Clayton & McKervey will go over the key accounting and tax issues that growth driven businesses face. He will also discuss how you may be able to manage your way through these issues and continue on a path to further growth.
