The West Lake Expo and Its International Investment Cooperation Week

Hangzhou, as one of the first batch of Chinese cities to hold large public exhibition, held the First West Lake Expo in 1929. With the goal of "improving manufactured products and developing the nation's industry", the First West Lake Expo was the first exhibition held in China. In the 128 days of the First West Lake Expo, over 20 million people joined. Huge impact was made to the country and the world.

Since it was resumed in 2000, it has been successfully staged for eight consecutive times. The Expo gives prominence to the theme "harmonious West Lake, charming Hangzhou", aiming at promoting Hangzhou's fame as "a city of life quality ". The Expo, sticking to the theme "people first, thrift, virtue and safety", has now become "a platform for developing the convention and exhibition industry, a carrier of cultural and ideological progress, and a festival for the ordinary people and the tourists from home and abroad". The Tenth West Lake International Expo will be held from Oct.18th to Nov.8th, 2008.

"The International Investment Cooperation Week" is an important event during "2008 West Lake Expo". It will be held in Hangzhou through October 25th to 30th. During this week, it is expected that over 1500 overseas guests from international business circles will come to join their counterparts in Hangzhou in various business events. Contracts of many foreign-invested projects will be signed during the same period and their total contracted investment volume is estimated to reach USD 1 billion.
